Weekly Ballroom Dancing LessonsDigital City, January 28, 2002 If you dream of gliding across the dance floor like Fred or Ginger, start working towards twinkle toe-dom at Night Moves. This Longwood club offers ballroom dancing lessons Sunday evenings. After thirty minutes of general dancing, novices get grounded in the basic steps with a 45-minute beginner lesson. If you don't have a partner, no problem. The 100-plus crowd divides pretty evenly among men and women. Guys and gals separate for the lesson then pair up to show their stuff on the dance floor. There's usually 15 or more newbies each week, so don't fret about sticking out among the veteran waltzers. As long as you don your dancing shoes, you'll fit in. Senior citizens share the floor with Gen-Xers and dress ranges from jeans to ball gowns. Steve Haas, Night Moves co-founder and former president of the Central Florida Dance Club, spins danceable hits from ballroom classics to disco and Madonna. Night Moves serves no alcohol and is a nonsmoking environment. If all the dancing whets your whistle, a snack bar serves sodas, hamburgers, hot dogs and popcorn. - Shauna Curphey Note: I wrote 6 to 8 pieces for Digital City each week. This is a sample. |
