Third Thursdays Downtown

Digital City, January 15, 2002

On the third Thursdays of each month, urbanites stroll through downtown galleries to see the latest in the local arts scene. The art walk covers the downtown arts district, bordered by Washington and Anderson streets, (north and south) and by Rosalind and Garland avenues (east and west). Saunter down the sidewalk to the Terrace Gallery at Orlando City Hall -- then move on to check out the late 19th and 20th century paintings, jewelry and sculpture at the Westin Hotel's Grand Bohemian Gallery. Other sights in the area include OVAL, a cooperative gallery and studio space, and the Gallery at Avalon Island, which hosts different exhibits each month.

If all that rambling works up your appetite, the area has plenty of casual places to grab a bite. If you dig dining alfresco, catch a free city bus to Thornton Park on the east side of Lake Eola. The area offers many cafes with sidewalk seating and local merchants keep their doors open for Third Thursday wanderers. - Shauna Curphey
